Jin the battle emcee is back, or did he leave? Jin, who is also working on a bio-pic about Bruce Lee’s childhood, titled “Bruce Lee, My Brother,” his journey is similar to Bruce Lee’s. Jin was born to a Chinese family, learned English and Cantonese, worked for his families business before striking out on his own as a battle rapper. Jin got signed to DMX’s Ruff Ryders from his title as reigning champ of the 106 & Park Freestyle Friday battles. Jin, kept it relevant releasing singles in relation to the Hot 97 Tsunami situation, Rosie O’Donnel, Virgina Tech Massacre and a “Open Letter To Obama” that was featured on Barack Obama’s official myspace page. Which is a very good look for Hip Hop. It was obvious in the song Jin’s respect for religion and faith in Jesus Christ, as it was expressed by our now president Obama. Even in the song to V-Tech you could here his faith and in songs in which he showed thanks and respect to his Family and supporters you could her the impact of his child-hood experiences with G-d at a youth camp coming through his music. Jin ended up starring in “Too Fast, Too Furious,” like Bruce Lee, starring in American Cinema before heading back to Hong Kong to make a name for himself. Right before going back to Hong Kong Jin got baptized and involved with the Christian faith he once explored as a child. This mixtape is his first English offering expressing his faith in Christ. He has been in Hong Kong getting endorsements, releasing Cantonese albums and acting, along with getting involved in ministry at his local church. So lets get into the mixtape and discuss the music, lyrics and content.
1) “I Tried” The mixtape starts with a passionate confession. He comes out and confesses his wrongs and asks for forgiveness while owning up to the wrongs he’s done in the past. This is Jin’s tape to say what he wants. He’s a changed man and what the world to know he’s got something to say. Jin’s declaring that he’s got God in his corner and that trying to right the wrongs. It’s a dope intro full of wit and punch lines.
2) Next Up is “Chillin In HK (Hong Kong)” talking about what he’s been doing in Hong Kong. From rapping in Cantonese to acting to endorsements he’s been making moves. He wants cats to see God in his eyes. He could say nothing but he’d rather say something.
3) Next is “Touch The Sky” of course this is a mixtape so production is over existing tracks. Jin says he’s feeling like he just got signed again. Declaring that he’s just here to serve God, like he just go adopted. It’s another fresh sampling from The Emcee.
4) Next to follow is “Hard” which tackles the topic of the struggles we face surviving God, going against the norm and facing your fears. He let’s you know you can’t let your guard down. It’s a dope track dealing with the battle we are all in.
5) “Running Thru My Head” is a catchy song. This is my wife’s favorite cut on this mixtape. The track deals with the struggles that going on in the battle for our minds. This is a catchy track. Jin’s pleading to be heard with the words he’s spitting, he asks are you listening. He states if you see him you see that he is blessed and not defined by success. He flips it at the end and talks about thoughts running through the listeners head.
6) “Beautiful Story” is a nice story telling rhyme which walks you through Jin’s childhood passion for hip hop, his battle to rhyme, the fame, the fall, etc… Eating rappers is all he knew. Jin declares his desire to keep his family fed as passion that has consumed him. Jin declares the trials and success of what’s just his first few steps in this journey.
If you didn’t know by now the address is AYoJin.com and the mixtape is Say Something which Jin states on every song. I guess homes got something to say.
7) “Angels” is another dope track about moving forward leaving the past behind. The video has dope visuals recorded in Hong Kong. Jin poses the statement whats the difference from the beginning to the end. He states Gods been guiding him like navigation, like lasik it took a while to get his vision back and seeing in high definition. Jin’s putting out change your life music. Jin states he’s just started. So we can plan to hear more from Jin. Later this year Jin has a new English language CD slated to drop.
The track thats necessary to mention is “Welcome To The Light Club” a track which was released on Jin’s myspace as an introduction to his freshly faith induced music. This is the first track he leaked to give us a sneak into his faith infused music. I love the Chinese sounding beat it’s a dope track. He makes some poignant points.
The mixtape is a nice declaration, it’s clean, a good confession. It’s a good taste til the album drops.

Next up Jin has a shotgun album release with Hanjin, coming out July 13th title Buy One Get One Free. This album features Hanjin sining in Madarin as Jin raps in Cantonese. It was recorded in ten days, each song was recorded that day based on topics they were discussing that day. That’s an interesting concept for an album. It also looks like he will be doing and English language album as well.
