Jin is a perfect example of God‘s Grace. He went from a battle rapper in the Fight Klub to a solider for Christ in the light club. Jin showed the world that secular rappers that convert aren’t soft or weak, releasing the track ”angels”, which he shocked the hip hop world on both sides. After hearing it, people’s appetites were ready for more from Jin. With that in mind, Jin did just that with his EP “Sincerely Yours”. This EP delivers five tracks, but shows that Jin is in the right club.
“Sincerely Yours.” First off, there are so many thoughts that rush through my brain as I hear this track! The production is great. It has a dirty south feel, but remains to have an authentic hip hop feel. Jin’s flow sounds similar to a more mature Diggy, which isn’t a bad thing at all. This track has a triple entendre within it’s title, referring to belonging “sincerely” to God, his wife and his fans. I would’ve preferred to hear a female voice on the chorus, but other than that, it
was a solid track.“Just Music.” I love how Jin goes through his life with his relationship with hip hop/music. He makes this track personal. He shows that he truly understands the power and influence of his words in his music. He even states that he uses “less random punch lines more great lines” (very great bar, but I disagree-his punch lines have always been great bars to me). This is a universal track and every artist from any and all genres should check this song out.
“Whatever It Takes.” This track has single written all over it. I could see a video for this track. Jin dips back into that dirty south sound and once again…it works for him. Jin speaks great biblical principles and realistic situations on this track. He speaks on being in “prison without the bars” and we’ve all been there in some form or fashion.
“Changed Man.” This is my favorite track off of the EP. The production is hot! This track also has single written all over it. I could see a video for this and hear it on MAINSTREAM radio. Even though he is speaking as a male, this track speaks to both genders. This is how hip hop/holy hip hop should be-able to reach everyone universally. This speaks to the heart and soul. These lyrics are very powerful. This track is a REPEAT OFFENDER!
“True Religion.” Jin gets the chorus right with “What is true religion? I ain’t talking about jeans.” (see, I told you his punch lines were great bars). Jin rides this beat well and is as sharp as he was when he was battling. Jin gives it to the listeners raw on “true religion”. Once again, he breaks the scriptures down in a simple form in his bars and doesn’t sound preachy. Jin breaks the word “religion” down and he shows the right and wrong way to show religion. After listening to this track, some of his old fans who began to question his motives (or just regular “Jin haters”) will probably give him more respect. This is a track that should and could convict many lukewarm Christians. Good job, Jin.
Overall, I give this EP a 3.5. It is a very solid album and has a great feel. Jin was sound and kept it real and transparent. The lyrics were good and the production fit him very well. Jin’s style seems to go with any style. I understand it’s a EP, but wanted Jin to expound on other subjects (he did a little in “Just Music” and “True Religion”), because I know he has more to say and is talented enough to bring more to the table. His hooks can be a turn off on a couple of tracks-not all, but ”True Religion” has the best hook-from the singing, but he still gets the point across. This feels like a snack and I can’t wait for the meal. In closing I’m glad “Sincerely Yours” is all mine. Spread the soup.
