I believe the first half of the Word is about us doing in the natural what is, was, and what will happen in the spiritual. I believe that these natural actions help us to see the Word more fully, and serve as a reminder to serve our L-rd and Savior. I know that many Christians and people in general feel the Jewish observance is too strict and burdensome and that Yeshua came to relieve us of these halacha or religious practices. I don’t think that is what Yeshua came to do he came to fulfill His Word and to show us, “hey, all these things you have been doing in the natural here is the positive spiritual application” or “realization.” As humans we forget all kinds of things we forget where we put our car keys, we forget that tomorrow is a major holiday or birthday and go shopping for gifts the night before. We forget people’s names, we become exhausted and forget to say our prayers before going to bed. I believe that this is why we have these established practices so we won’t forget and we in turn also have a connection with D’Var ADONAI, the Word of G-D, like we never knew before.
We sing the favorite children’s song “This Little Light of Mine” and we go on to say I’m going to let it shine, we have taken this to mean and rightly so that Yeshua is the Light of the World and we should be lights as well. During the Hanukkah we light candles and display them in our windows for 8 consecutive days. Talk about letting your light shine for the world, well your neighborhood, you will not hide it under a bush, oh no. Every Friday night after sundown the Jewish practice is to light candles and say a prayer after it is lit, “Blessed are you O L-rd our King, Creator of the Universe who has commanded us to kindle the Shabbat lights.” What a wonderful blessing here I see the light kindling in my home I am reminded of Yeshua’s light to us and unto the World and that I need to be a light as He is the Light. This also point to the women’s sacred duty to bring the Light into the world, just like Miriam brought Yeshua into the Sukkah/Manger.
We are to sup, dine, feast with Yeshua as He did with Jis disciples, well every Passover we share a full course meal in which the main staple is matzah (unleavened bread/bread without yeast). Here I get to feast with the Word of G-d is revealed and this Passover I read the scripture that said as they were eating the Matzah with the resurrected Yeshua that after he blessed the bread and broke it then the disciples became aware of who he was. The man they ate matzah with just a few days ago, whom they saw die on a tree, was sitting eating with them The One True Living, breathing, Risen King and L-rd. Not a bad idea to be reminded not with extracurricular activities but actual participate in the same feast Yeshua did how lovely and awesome!
Once a month we are instructed at the head of the month when the new moon is present to come together as a congregation and worship. What a delightful way to start out the month with praise and adoration of our King. Well that is what Sunday service is for right we do it once a week every week. But when there is a special designated time to say thank you L-RD for getting me through another month well then it makes worship even more special. These designated days, acts are joyous, restful times set aside for us to Honor our Savior and L-RD.
Another reminder is how He would make our cup overflow well where we see a cup overflowing. Every Havdalah or conclusion of Shabbat at the beginning of our work week. We pour a cup of wine/juice that pours over the cup and I am reminded once again of HIS promises to give me joy overflowing.
We see in scripture many times about bread, give us this day our daily bread, Jesus is the bread of life, many times bread is mentioned. Well every Friday night once again we eat a fat loaf of delicious bread called Challah and it again brings to my memory of G-ds word to us. Amen.
We read about having clean hands and a pure heart and yes Yeshua came to make us clean, but before every meal there is a ritual hand washing yet again we see tangible the washing of hands and we can again rejoice that Yeshua has made our hearts pure and our hands clean of any wrong doing to others of our own sins and that we can go to him and be made clean inside and out.
We are told to write his commandments on our hearts and yes on our door post you will see Jewish homes with little fixture on the doorpost with the 10 commandments written inside. Why the D’Var Adonai is now on our hearts no need for the doorpost, but I sometimes forget to love my neighbor or not hate/murder in my heart and I kiss the fixture as I walk into the house and here I am reminded that I need to do what right all the time every day.
Now you may say I don’t forget that is what the Holy Spirit is there for and he does call to our remembrance the word of G-d, but I get a richness as I read the W-rd and daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly and see His reminders and now I have no excuse that I forgot. I have joy and elation that I am serving the King and see His mighty deeds in my life daily.
