Boker Tov!!! (Good Morning!!!)
This week we finish up “The Three Weeks of Sorrow” with some very devastating events that occurred throughout Jewish History.
7 Av (Today – Sunday ) was a miserable day. Nebuchadnezzar came to destroy the first temple, as the Babylonians broke in to the temple. A civil war also took place on this day during the second temple era between different Jewish factions, after they could not decide whether to attack the Romans or not.
8 Av – Erev Tisha B’ Av (Monday Evening)
“Thus says the LORD of hosts: The fast of the fourth month and the fast of the fifth and the fast of the seventh and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Judah seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace.”-Zechariah 8:19
The Purpose of this Fast is to instill some sense of T’shuvah (Repentance) by recalling certain tragedies that befell the Jewish People because of idolatry.
9 Av - Tisha B’ Av (Tuesday) is the ninth day of the fifth biblical month. , it is traditional to fast in memory of the destruction of the Temple. The Temple was destroyed on the ninth day of the fifth month in 586 BCE and again in 70 CE. According to Jewish tradition, the ninth day of the fifth month is also the anniversary of the day on which the spies delivered their evil report about the land of Israel and swayed the hearts of the generation. But according to the prophets, when the Kingdom of Messiah is established, the ninth day of the fifth month will be transformed into a day of joy and gladness. (Zechariah 8:19).

10 Av (Wednesday) is famous for the continuation of the Temples being burnt.
We have a Special Shabbat this week Shabbat Nachamu “The Sabbath of Comfort”
Va’etchanan | ואתחנן | “I pleaded”
The forty-fifth reading from the Torah and the second reading from the book of Deuteronomy is named Va’etchanan (ואתחנן), which means “and I besought.” The title comes from the first verse of the reading, which says, “I also pleaded (va’etchanan) with the LORD at that time” (Deuteronomy 3:23). The portion completes the historical prologue of the Deuteronomy covenant document and begins a rehearsal of the stipulations. Part of that rehearsal is a repetition of the Ten Commandments and the famous first passage of the Shema: Deuteronomy 6:4–9.
Torah (First Five (Shumash) Books of the Bible): D’varim (Dueteronomy) 3:23-7:11
Haftarah (Prophets): Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 40:1-27

Frequently Asked Question: The Brit Chadashah readings are suggested and varies with each cycle and / or congregation. I currently use Hebrew for Christians and First Fruits of Zion and they each have different readings. That is why there is no out line for The Brit Chadashah.

Shabbat Nachamu
Nachamu, Nachamu ami – Be Comforted, Be Comforted My People (Yesha’yahu 40) (shab-baht na-kha-MOO) /“The Sabbath of Comfort.” The Sabbath immediately following Tisha B’Av is called Shabbat Nachamu – The Sabbath of Comfort. This is based off the Haftarah reading from Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 40 that begins: Nachamu, Nachamu ami – Be Comforted, Be Comforted My People…… The three Sages state that the word Nachamu is repeated to offer consolation for each of the Temples that were destroyed.
